Division of Information Technology
SPSU Password Policy
- Use hard to guess passwords, not based on dictionary words and not easily identified with your person.
- Use passwords with a minimum of 8 characters, mix upper and lower case, use symbols and numbers.
- Memorize your passwords,
do not write them down or store them on electronic media, such as a USB flash drive.
- Never share your password with anyone, not even IT!
- Change your passwords often (every 6 months or less). You can do this at http://accounts.spsu.edu/ as often as you like. Make sure your new password is not too similar to your old one.
- If you think there is even a slight possibility that someone else might know your password, change it AND NOTIFY IT!
- Use different passwords for different organizations or systems. For example, never use your Banner password for anything other than Banner.
- Always make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder or at your keyboard when you enter your password. Likewise, if you're with someone entering a password, be polite and look away.
