F. A. Q.
- I forgot my password or user name, what should I do?
If you lose your password or forget your userName, see the service center in the Workshop's General Use Lab for assistance. Bring a photo ID, your SSN (or university ID), and your PIN (same as for BANNER, usually your 6 digit date of birth).
- I can access my e-mail but not log onto the computers in the Workshop's General Use Lab, what should I do?
If you can access your e-mail but cannot logon in the Workshop's General Use Lab, see the service center for assistance, you may need to reset your password. If you created an account PRIOR to summer semester 2002, and specifically chose NOT to add lab access, then you don't have a password for the lab machines. The system has since been merged, and every account has access. However, the old accounts that didn't have access, do not have a password, so it must be reset.
- How much space do I have for e-mail?
Students have 4M (4000kB) of space for e-mail. Please remember to clean out your unwanted messages. If you run out of space, you will not be able to receive new mail!
- Is there a limit to the size of an e-mail message I can send or receive?
Yes, students cannot receive or send e-mails larger than 2M in size, if you send one bigger than this your account will freeze.
- I cannot receive e-mail, what should I do?
How to Repair Email Problems
- Where can I find out about my student web site?
Web Resources Page
- Does the SPSU Student's web page support Perl, Java, PHP, or C?
No. For security reasons server side languages are not supported for student/organizational web sites. But client side languages like JavaScript work fine. See the next question for more information.
- Does the SPSU Student's web page support JavaScript?
Yes. JavaScript does not need any specific modules to be installed on the web server. This means that JavaScript will work on your web browser as long as visitors to your web site are using a JavaScript enabled browser.
- How much space do I get for my web site?
Students receive 2M of space for their web site.
- Can I access/upload files like web pages to the server remotely?
No, you must be on campus to access your files. Either through the "W" drive in the Workshop's General Use Lab or by mapping a drive from another computer on campus. Please see the next question to learn how to map a drive.
- How do I map a drive?
To map a drive you must be on campus (including dorms). Right mouse click "My Computer" from your desktop and click on "Map network drive...", then pick a drive letter that is not being used ("G" is usually free). Click on the "Connect using a different user name." link and for the user name type "SPSU\yourUserID" (without @spsu.edu), and your normal password. Then hit enter. In the "Folder" blank enter the location of the folder you wish to map. Your Workshop data folder is located at "\\IO\yourUserID" and your web site folder is "\\userweb\yourUserID". Click on "Finish" and you should be done! Note, the apartment complex is NOT considered "on campus" and mapping drives will not work from there.
- My question is not answered in this FAQ! What should I do?
If you need help with a computer issue related to the SPSU network or services please contact the Helpdesk by phone 678-915-HELP (4357) or stop by the Workshop Service Center in H-242.
